Alternative for: plastic-wrapped single-use cotton wool pads or disposable make up remover wipes
Reusable make up remover pads are a great way to reduce waste. Shop-bought reusable pads tend to have a high upfront cost, so making your own might be a good way to go - the yarn we used cost just £2.99.
These make-your-own crochet pads are some of the best reusable pads we've tried so you won't be compromising on performance!
Difficulty Rating: Medium, requires some previous crocheting experience (or a friend to help!)
Make each pad at least 7cm across (diameter) as they will shrink slightly when first washed. This will be about 3 rounds of crochet.
Wash before first use. Put in a washbag, sock or pillowcase to stop the scrubbies getting stuck in the washing machine door seal. We recommend washing at 30 degrees.
If using to remove make up, give the scrubbies a quick rinse to remove as much excess make up as possible
These scrubbies don't work so well for applying liquid skincare products, they are better for creams or oils. An alternative would be the pads made from cotton flannel or towelling pads like these ones from Cheeky Wipes.
At end of life, because these scrubbies are made from 100% cotton they are biodegradable and could even go on your compost.
