Solid Shampoo Bar by Lush

Plastic Free
Cruelty Free
Zero Waste

Alternative for: bottled liquid shampoo

Lush make a large range of shampoo bars. We tried 'Honey I Washed My Hair' shampoo bar.

Packaging: None

End of Life: Biodegradable

 Recommended by Juliet C.

"This is the first time I have tried a shampoo bar and I'm converted! It works just as you'd expect any shampoo to, my hair feels clean and really soft. It also smells lovely, although I enjoy a very perfumed shampoo which might not be to everyone's taste. I'd highly recommend a tin or dish for storage as otherwise you'll find it stuck to the surface you left it on."

Advantages...

  • 100% plastic-free
  • Highly concentrated so a little goes a long way - each bar is the equivalent of 3 x 250g bottles of shampoo
  • Great for travelling - it's compact and can be taken in hand luggage when flying as the bar is not classed as liquid.
  • Because this bar contains SLS you may find there is no transition period that you can get with other solid shampoo bars. This could make switching to plastic-free solid shampoo easier.

Disadvantages...

Costs...

£7.50 for 55g bar

Because it is so concentrated it works out to a little more than the cost as my old named-brand bottled shampoo.

Where to Buy...

Buy direct from Lush.com

Tips...

  • Do not apply the bar directly to your hair
  • It's best to allow the shampoo bar to air dry between uses
  • For storage, a slatted soap dish is best but you could also use any tin, a ceramic or glass soap dish, repurpose a dessert ramekin or use a soap pouch
  • When travelling make sure the bar is dry before packing away
